Jean Piaget

Jean Piaget's fundamental needs, values, and orientation towards life are symbolized by the four astrological elements. Each person has their own unique balance of these four basic energies: fire (warmth, inspiration, enthusiasm), earth (practicality, realism, material interests), air (social and intellectual qualities), and water (emotional needs and feelings).

Piaget's "elemental make-up" is described below. Piaget prizes personal independence and autonomy so much that he is apt to downplay his need for closeness and caring. While Jean Piaget expresses indignation, anger, excitement or enthusiasm rather freely, he hides his feelings of sadness or inadequacy. He may dismiss his own feelings and those of others as insignificant. It is hard for Piaget to let others know when he is hurting and needs their support, because he feels that they will not respect him if he reveals this sort of vulnerability.

Striving to be (and often believing himself to be) emotionally self-sufficient limits Jean's ability to be truly intimate with others and to get the nurturing he needs. Jean Piaget is also often rather insensitive to how his behavior affects others.

As you will read in the next chapter, Jean Piaget is able to sufficiently detach himself from his own self-centered aims and desires to take an active interest in other people. Piaget is actually quite social and frequently moderates his egocentric tendencies in order to accommodate others' viewpoints.
