Jean Louis motivation
Though Berthauldt may seem breezy, independent and freedom loving (as mentioned in the previous chapter), he is in fact not completely happy without a partner. He enjoys being on the move and exploring new territory, but wants a traveling companion! Berthauldt yearns for fulfilling, yet non-restricting relationships.
Harmony and balance are his keynotes. Jean Louis instinctively understands the need to accommodate other people's interests and desires, and he is always fair and willing to meet others half way. Tactful, diplomatic, and quite socially aware, Jean Louis does all he can to avoid conflict and discord. His spirit is one of cooperation and compromise, and he often achieves through charm and discretion what would have been impossible to achieve with a direct, forceful approach.
Getting along with and pleasing others may be too important to Berthauldt since he can be too dependent on the approval and opinions of other to make his own decisions. Berthauldt will rarely act without seeking the counsel and feedback of other people. He prefers sharing and doing things with others rather than on his own. Being alone feels very unnatural to Jean Louis, and he has a strong need for a partner and intimate one-on-one relationships.
Jean Louis invests a great deal of his energy in personal love relationships and he is very idealistic and romantic about marriage. Jean Louis seeks a partner who is his equal intellectually, and who is capable of a mental relationship as well as a physical and emotional one. He makes a thoughtful, considerate friend or lover, and he enjoys the traditional symbols of love - courtship, flowers, etc. Berthauldt perceives relationships like an art that requires time, attention and creative effort. Jean Louis appreciates a partner who is subtle and polished, never coarse or blunt.
Fairness and equality, both in his personal relationships and in the world, are extremely important to him. If Jean Louis fights about anything, it is often about something he feels is unfair and unbalanced. Balance is very important to Jean Louis. He believes in moderation in all things and avoids fanaticism and extremism at all costs.
Jean Louis also has a strong need for beautiful, harmonious surroundings and a natural sense of artistic style and grace, which is reflected in the way Berthauldt dresses and furnishes his home and workspace. Everything must be aesthetically pleasing and appropriate. Working with people as a counselor, advisor, consultant, or negotiator, or in an artistic field such as design or photography would be fulfilling to him.
Berthauldt is very attracted to world travel, foreign cultures and studies that expand his intellectual horizons and broaden his understanding of the world.
Jean Louis is philosophically inclined and concerned with seeking answers to the big questions of life or getting an overall picture of any situation. Abstract concepts and/or plans for the future occupy his mind much of the time.
Jean Louis is loving and well loved by others, and has a strong need for relationships that offer kindness, friendship and affection. His artistic and creative powers are also well developed and Jean Louis does everything in a harmonious, gracious, pleasing manner. Aesthetics are very important to Berthauldt, as are his personal appearance and attractiveness.
His life is apt to be blessed with more than his share of helpful friends, fortuitous relationships, and doors opening up to him at just the right time. Because Jean Louis is usually willing to share and to give back to others in a generous way, he continues to generate success in his life no matter how unfortunate prevailing circumstances are. Jean Louis should beware, however, of becoming an opportunist.
Impulsive, restless and spontaneous, his life is apt to be somewhat unstable and full of sudden changes. Jean Louis is extremely independent and craves excitement, adventure, freedom and discovery. Berthauldt has a rebellious streak and he often feels he is unusual and different from society's mainstream. The unorthodox and the novel appeal to him.
Jean Louis is extremely sensitive and imaginative, and he can get lost in his dreams, fantasies and visions. He is attracted to artistic and creative pursuits, as well as to the world of color, beauty, and emotion. Jean Louis is also drawn to mysticism and he has deep spiritual aspirations and yearnings. Gentle and peace loving, Berthauldt may lack the will and competitive spirit needed to make his way in the world. He is often impractical and may seek to avoid or escape the harsh realities of life.
His vitality is very strong and he is likely to be a workaholic. If Jean Louis is not careful, he may work so hard that he becomes exhausted, leaving himself open to physical breakdown. Jean Louis also has a strong drive to win and to dominate others.
With his charm and outgoing personality Jean Louis has no trouble attracting people and he enjoys pleasant and congenial relationships with them. He may choose social contact with generous or wealthy people and would prefer to live in a beautiful home.
His physique tends to be sensitive and his vitality may be a bit low. Jean Louis is very impressionable and somewhat unrealistic. Sometimes his idealism could be confused or impractical, and Berthauldt can be rebellious or else apathetic.
