István has two conflicting interests that he tries to resolve. As described in the previous chapter, he loves to nurture and support others, and family relationships are very important to Szabó. However, there is another side to István Szabó: at heart he is a very independent person and he needs to participate in community endeavors and be involved with the world at large.
