Hume Cronyn motivation
Although Cronyn may seem quite poised, even-tempered, balanced and harmonious (as mentioned in the previous chapter), he is actually rather moody and emotional. Inside, he is much more subjective and biased in his attitudes than his fair-minded, reasonable demeanor may imply.
Hume has powerful emotional attachments to the past, his family, his childhood, places he associates with safety and security, and his beginnings. It is very important to Cronyn to maintain a connection with his roots and heritage and keep family bonds strong. Loyal, devoted, and sentimental, Cronyn tends to cling to whatever is dear to him - be it a person, a familiar place, or a cherished possession.
He is sympathetic, nurturing, supportive and very sensitive to the emotional needs of other people. Hume likes to be needed and to care for others, and he often worries about the people he loves. Hume Cronyn has a very strong need for a sense of belonging and acceptance, and much of his life centers on his home. He is more concerned about people and their feelings than with power, achievement, or position in society. Kindness, consideration and tenderness are more meaningful to Hume Cronyn than any sort of honor the world can bestow.
He is primarily emotional and his views are often dominated by his feelings and his own personal, subjective experiences, rather than reason, logic or abstract principles. It is difficult for him to judge situations fairly and objectively because his personal sympathies and loyalties usually factor in. Hume Cronyn takes things very personally and sometimes builds a wall around himself to shield himself from pain and rejection. Hume Cronyn feels rather shy and vulnerable at heart. He also tends to be moody and experiences frequent mood swings. Hume Cronyn needs to have a place and time in his life to withdraw, introspect, dream and replenish himself; otherwise Hume Cronyn becomes cranky and unhappy with those around him.
Hume Cronyn functions in an instinctive, irrational manner and likes to immerse himself in creative activities where he can express his feelings, imagination and instincts. Cronyn often loves to cook, since it can be both creative and a way to nurture and nourish others. Hume Cronyn also has a great affinity for music, because it evokes and communicates feelings that may be difficult or impossible to put into words.
His compassion, sensitivity, and imagination are Cronyn's strong points. His faults include an inability to let go of the past and move forward, clannishness and prejudice, and a tendency for self-pity when facing hardship.
His career, reputation and public image are very important to Cronyn. Hume Cronyn has a strong desire to be influential or make his mark on the world. He is not satisfied with the personal sphere alone; his ambitions include making a major contribution and receiving broad recognition for his unique effort and gifts. Hume Cronyn may undervalue the personal or inner facet of life.
If he follows his true nature, his life is apt to be unconventional, unusual, controversial and full of insecurity and excitement. Hume Cronyn cannot and will not be forced into a pre-set mold, and Hume finds it difficult to conform. His offbeat interests and tastes lead Cronyn to ventures that others may consider too "far-out" or experimental. Hume Cronyn has a very creative, inventive streak.
Sensitive and imaginative, he is attracted to artistic and creative pursuits and to mysticism. Hume Cronyn is impressionable and receptive, and often has experiences that are unusual and unexplainable by the rational mind. Hume has an abundance of dreams, visions and longings, but does not always have the concentrated will and stamina to make them materialize. Gentle, idealistic and peace loving, Hume often seeks to avoid the harsh realities of life. Hume has an ethereal quality about him.
He is a bit impulsive and excitable and wants things done quickly. Hume Cronyn tends to be very impatient with anyone who is slower or less energetic than he is. Cronyn will fight for what he wants but should guard against mishaps or accidents.
Hume Cronyn loves to entertain and likes to cultivate social contacts. He enjoys forming close personal relationships with others and most of them should be harmonious. Hume prefers teamwork rather than separate efforts to realize his goals.
