George Sanders motivation
Behind Sanders' strong, proud appearance (described in the previous chapter), there is a very tender, sensitive, sentimental, feeling person. He is probably much shyer and more private than initially presumed.
George has powerful emotional attachments to the past, his family, his childhood, places he associates with safety and security, and his beginnings. It is very important to Sanders to maintain a connection with his roots and heritage and keep family bonds strong. Loyal, devoted, and sentimental, Sanders tends to cling to whatever is dear to him - be it a person, a familiar place, or a cherished possession.
He is sympathetic, nurturing, supportive and very sensitive to the emotional needs of other people. George likes to be needed and to care for others, and he often worries about the people he loves. George Sanders has a very strong need for a sense of belonging and acceptance, and much of his life centers on his home. He is more concerned about people and their feelings than with power, achievement, or position in society. Kindness, consideration and tenderness are more meaningful to George Sanders than any sort of honor the world can bestow.
He is primarily emotional and his views are often dominated by his feelings and his own personal, subjective experiences, rather than reason, logic or abstract principles. It is difficult for him to judge situations fairly and objectively because his personal sympathies and loyalties usually factor in. George Sanders takes things very personally and sometimes builds a wall around himself to shield himself from pain and rejection. George Sanders feels rather shy and vulnerable at heart. He also tends to be moody and experiences frequent mood swings. George Sanders needs to have a place and time in his life to withdraw, introspect, dream and replenish himself; otherwise George Sanders becomes cranky and unhappy with those around him.
George Sanders functions in an instinctive, irrational manner and likes to immerse himself in creative activities where he can express his feelings, imagination and instincts. Sanders often loves to cook, since it can be both creative and a way to nurture and nourish others. George Sanders also has a great affinity for music, because it evokes and communicates feelings that may be difficult or impossible to put into words.
His compassion, sensitivity, and imagination are Sanders' strong points. His faults include an inability to let go of the past and move forward, clannishness and prejudice, and a tendency for self-pity when facing hardship.
Leading groups and classes and being involved in community efforts, social activities, events or movements are areas where George Sanders really shines and expresses his creativity. An awareness of politics or the larger social impact of individual actions comes naturally to him.
He is assertive, energetic, active, courageous and vital. George Sanders has a very strong physical drive that expresses itself as sexuality and passion, a desire to compete with others, and a tendency to fight. George Sanders has a victorious spirit and the will to win.
While George Sanders does have a strong drive, he frequently holds himself back. One of his challenges lies in learning to endure frustration and to patiently overcome the obstacles in his life (or his own internal caution and resistance!).
Realistic and practical, George Sanders sets goals for himself that are modest enough for him to actually achieve. He is able to tackle long, difficult projects and see them through, for Sanders possesses self-discipline, concentration and perseverance. George Sanders also has a strong sense of responsibility and is very conscientious about fulfilling his obligations. Sanders often does things because he feels it is expected of him.
Although he takes himself and his responsibilities seriously, there is also a part of George Sanders that rebels against rules and restrictions and the need to contend with outside authority. Sanders can feel torn between conforming to the rules or fulfilling his obligations, and breaking free of them. His wilder side will now be described.
If he follows his true nature, his life is apt to be unconventional, unusual, controversial and full of insecurity and excitement. George Sanders cannot and will not be forced into a pre-set mold, and George finds it difficult to conform. His offbeat interests and tastes lead Sanders to ventures that others may consider too "far-out" or experimental. George Sanders has a very creative, inventive streak.
Along with his energy and drive, George Sanders has high ideals and an active fantasy life. There is a dreamer and an idealist in Sanders, as well as a doer and a fighter. George wants to win but not at the expense of others, and this may be somewhat of a dilemma for him.
While he is realistic and conscientious (or overly conscientious), as described above, George Sanders also has an otherworldly, dreamy, or mystically-inclined side, as described below.
Sensitive and imaginative, he is attracted to artistic and creative pursuits and to mysticism. George Sanders is impressionable and receptive, and often has experiences that are unusual and unexplainable by the rational mind. George has an abundance of dreams, visions and longings, but does not always have the concentrated will and stamina to make them materialize. Gentle, idealistic and peace loving, George often seeks to avoid the harsh realities of life. George has an ethereal quality about him.
