F. Scott Fitzgerald motivation
Though he may appear breezy and impersonal at times (as mentioned in the previous chapter), the personal, human dimension of life is crucial to him and close to his heart.
Harmony and balance are his keynotes. F. Scott Fitzgerald instinctively understands the need to accommodate other people's interests and desires, and he is always fair and willing to meet others half way. Tactful, diplomatic, and quite socially aware, Francis Scott does all he can to avoid conflict and discord. His spirit is one of cooperation and compromise, and he often achieves through charm and discretion what would have been impossible to achieve with a direct, forceful approach.
Getting along with and pleasing others may be too important to Fitzgerald since he can be too dependent on the approval and opinions of other to make his own decisions. Fitzgerald will rarely act without seeking the counsel and feedback of other people. He prefers sharing and doing things with others rather than on his own. Being alone feels very unnatural to F. Scott Fitzgerald, and he has a strong need for a partner and intimate one-on-one relationships.
F. Scott Fitzgerald invests a great deal of his energy in personal love relationships and he is very idealistic and romantic about marriage. F. Scott Fitzgerald seeks a partner who is his equal intellectually, and who is capable of a mental relationship as well as a physical and emotional one. He makes a thoughtful, considerate friend or lover, and he enjoys the traditional symbols of love - courtship, flowers, etc. Fitzgerald perceives relationships like an art that requires time, attention and creative effort. F. Scott Fitzgerald appreciates a partner who is subtle and polished, never coarse or blunt.
Fairness and equality, both in his personal relationships and in the world, are extremely important to him. If F. Scott Fitzgerald fights about anything, it is often about something he feels is unfair and unbalanced. Balance is very important to Francis Scott. He believes in moderation in all things and avoids fanaticism and extremism at all costs.
F. Scott Fitzgerald also has a strong need for beautiful, harmonious surroundings and a natural sense of artistic style and grace, which is reflected in the way Fitzgerald dresses and furnishes his home and workspace. Everything must be aesthetically pleasing and appropriate. Working with people as a counselor, advisor, consultant, or negotiator, or in an artistic field such as design or photography would be fulfilling to him.
F. Scott Fitzgerald craves intense experiences and is attracted to aspects of life that are strange, unfathomable, or taboo. He may hide his interests or inclinations, except from those who know Francis Scott very intimately. F. Scott Fitzgerald is rarely content with himself and his life, and he has an inner urge to be continually going farther or deeper than him ever have before. Francis Scott has also a strong interest in social power and the role that money and economics play in people's lives.
There is an ongoing, subtle conflict within F. Scott Fitzgerald, between his conscious attitudes and aspirations, and his deeper emotional and subconscious beliefs, needs, and feelings. This creates considerable inner stress and sometimes paralyzing indecision, mostly due to the fact that Francis Scott may be trying to follow a path that is at odds with his subconscious desires. Chronic tightness or tension in his body may well be a signal that F. Scott Fitzgerald is denying or suppressing the messages from his subconscious or emotional self.
Ideally, F. Scott Fitzgerald will learn to accept the two quite different aspects of his and to express both of them. If he cannot do this, Fitzgerald is apt to attract many relationships into his life with people who reflect his denied or repressed qualities, and who seem to make his life difficult.
