In addition to having an independent spirit, as described in the previous chapter, Dustin Diamond is also objective, pragmatic and quite ambitious. He is likely to work his way to the top of the ladder in some corporation, academic community or the like through his astute strategies combined with his willingness to take risks. Dustin Diamond aims to be the authority, the one in charge. At times his impulsiveness may be at odds with his conservative, responsible side (which is discussed below). Diamond could experience ongoing internal tension between pleasing himself and acting spontaneously versus doing what he needs to do to get ahead and realize his long-range ambitions.

Serious, disciplined and quietly ambitious, he is driven to prove himself and to achieve material accomplishments and success. His work, his position in the world, and his contributions to society are very important to Diamond. Dustin Diamond will persevere through enormous hardship and frustration in order to reach a goal he has set for himself, and he often sacrifices much in the area of personal relationships and home life in order to do so.

Dustin Diamond has a thoughtful, quiet and self-contained disposition and does not readily show his inner feelings and needs. Dustin Diamond seems to always be in control, capable, efficient and strong. He is often the person in the family or group who is given more responsibility (and more work) than the others. He is highly conscientious and even as a child he possessed great maturity, soberness, and worldly wisdom.

He is basically a pragmatic realist, and though he may have all sorts of dreams, ideals and colorful theories, he feels that the ultimate test of a concept is its practical usefulness. Dustin has an innate shrewdness and business sense, and there is a bit of the cynic in him as well.

He is clear-headed, detached and objective, and is not swayed by emotional dramatics. He is often authoritarian - strictly fair, but without mercy. Dustin Diamond has a great respect for tradition and even if he does not agree with certain laws, he will abide by them or strive to change them, but never flagrantly disregard them. Cautious and conservative, Dustin Diamond plays by the rules.

He is subtle, understated, quiet, deep, not easy to get to know intimately, and never superficial. He is a modest person and sometimes overly self-critical. Giving himself (and others) permission to feel, play, be spontaneous and silly, and sometimes weak and vulnerable is not easy for Diamond.

Diamond's strong points are his depth and thoroughness, patience, tenacity and faithfulness. His faults are a tendency to be rigid and inflexible, and too serious.

His career, reputation, and public image are very important to Diamond. Dustin Diamond has a strong desire to be influential or make his mark on the world. The merely personal sphere does not satisfy him; his ambitions include making a major contribution and receiving broad recognition for his unique effort and gifts. Dustin Diamond may undervalue the personal or inner side of life.

Dustin Diamond tends to see things from his perspective only and to be rather subjective. He also enjoys talking and expressing his views but does not always listen as well. Dustin Diamond has a clear mind, a love of learning and new experiences, and he needs constant mental stimulation and activity.

There is an ongoing, subtle conflict within Dustin Diamond, between his conscious attitudes and aspirations, and his deeper emotional and subconscious beliefs, needs, and feelings. This creates considerable inner stress and sometimes paralyzing indecision, mostly due to the fact that Dustin may be trying to follow a path that is at odds with his subconscious desires. Chronic tightness or tension in his body may well be a signal that Dustin Diamond is denying or suppressing the messages from his subconscious or emotional self.

Ideally, Dustin Diamond will learn to accept the two quite different aspects of his and to express both of them. If he cannot do this, Diamond is apt to attract many relationships into his life with people who reflect his denied or repressed qualities, and who seem to make his life difficult. Dustin has lofty aspirations but does not struggle or labor to achieve them. His self-confidence and inner harmony attract success and benefit him in an almost magical way. His optimism and cheerful generosity also win Diamond many allies and successes in life.

However he also has a more somber side, which keeps Diamond's optimism from becoming ungrounded or overblown. Dustin Diamond tends to seesaw between his faith, vision and high aspirations, and his caution and realism (or fear!). He cannot and does not rely on good luck or grace alone, and he accepts the need for hard work. His skeptical or "somber" side is described below.

Dustin has to overcome considerable hardship in order to fulfill his personal destiny. However, he does have the strength and stamina necessary to do so. Support and helpful guidance from his father or other significant men in his life may well be lacking. In fact, their disapproval of Dustin and their harsh criticism are apt to be two of his greatest handicaps, and at times he may feel quite discouraged and alone. But true self-reliance and a solid sense of his own powers may well be the silver lining to that cloud in his life. Dustin Diamond needs to learn to follow his own creative impulses and heart's desires, regardless of what his critics or the authorities say.

He is intensely willful, zealous, and fanatical though Dustin often hides the intensity of his feelings and his personal motives and desires. Diamond is infatuated with power and has an almost compulsive desire for personal recognition and the desire to be "somebody". Dustin Diamond tends to worship heroes who have powerful personal magnetism and charisma and often seeks to emulate them. Dustin Diamond both fears, and is intensely fascinated with, death and the hidden, secret, dark side of life.
