Because Crown Princess Masako seems to be such a gentle, tolerant, accepting person (as mentioned in the previous chapter), she can startle people with some of her very pointed, bluntly honest statements. Even though she is sensitive and empathetic, she can also be quite tactless at times. Her good will and good intentions, however, usually prevail. With Masako Owada's free-flowing imagination (described earlier) and her great restlessness (discussed below), she is apt to be a wanderer, and perhaps somewhat of an escapist.

She is a gambler and an adventurer at heart, one who loves to take risks, to discover and explore new worlds, and to travel the untried path rather than the safe, reliable one.
