Christie Hefner's fundamental needs, values, and orientation towards life are symbolized by the four astrological elements. Each person has their own unique balance of these four basic energies: fire (warmth, inspiration, enthusiasm), earth (practicality, realism, material interests), air (social and intellectual qualities), and water (emotional needs and feelings).

Hefner's "elemental make-up" is described below. She is often so enthusiastically involved in her projects and intent on achieving results that Christie Hefner does not take sufficient time to reflect and gain an objective sense of what she is doing. Furthermore, she is apt to override or ignore anyone who raises reasonable questions about what she is doing. Hefner rarely asks for advice or seeks feedback.

Cooperating and learning how to give and take in relationships between equals does not come easily to Christie, and she is more comfortable in relationships where one person is clearly more dominant (chief-subordinate, teacher-pupil, parent-child, etc.). Christie Hefner also has trouble understanding and communicating with people whose interests and approach toward life differ from her own because she tends to view differences as a conflict or threat.

Fortunately, as you will read in the next chapter, Christie Hefner does have a sense of realism and caution that prevents her great vision from becoming too grandiose, impractical or pretentious.
