Charmane Star's fundamental needs, values, and orientation towards life are symbolized by the four astrological elements. Each person has their own unique balance of these four basic energies: fire (warmth, inspiration, enthusiasm), earth (practicality, realism, material interests), air (social and intellectual qualities), and water (emotional needs and feelings).

Star's "elemental make-up" is described below. Remember that most people are "unbalanced" or lopsided, and if Charmane is lacking or deficient in a certain element (or elements), it simply means that she needs to consciously develop that particular aspect in order to appreciate and/or work harder in that dimension of life.

Sometimes we overestimate the element that we are least endowed with, sensing it as a lack within ourselves, but more often we neglect or ignore it. The qualities described below will be reiterated and explained in more detail in the following pages.

She is a fiery individual, filled with tremendous passion and zest for life. Charmane thrives in situations where there is energy, excitement, action, movement, dynamism and drama. Along with her exuberant vitality and enthusiasm, Charmane Star has an acute ability to visualize future possibilities, and an almost childlike faith in "what could be". Unless she has a vision, an aspiration, or a wonderful dream to believe in, Star is not completely happy. Charmane Star has a great sense of the majesty, grandeur and adventure of life, but tends to overlook the magic in small things and everyday life.

Charmane Star also has a strong urge to express herself spontaneously and creatively, without conforming to others' ways or conventions. Personal freedom and independence are very important to Charmane and she resists being "owned" or dictated to. Star is secretly apt to feel that she is special or charmed - somehow above or beyond the realm of "ordinary" people and mundane life.

Charmane Star has a dominant ego and can be excessively proud, dominating, or concerned with herself. Charmane Star has a positive, vigorous, active approach to life, and bringing her intentions and desires to the fore feels more natural to her than going with the flow or merely allowing life to unfold. Charmane Star is essentially very "yang" (assertive, competitive, outgoing, direct), and the "yin" qualities of passive acceptance, receptivity, gentleness, and subtlety do not come easily to her. Charmane inspires others with her generous spirit, idealism, spark, confidence and joie de vivre, but she can also irritate them with her self-centeredness and insistence on expressing herself freely regardless of others' needs or opinions. Moreover, Charmane Star has trouble being content in the present and would benefit by learning how to consciously pacify her restlessness and achieve the capacity for tranquility and peacefulness.

Charmane Star tends to lack the ability to analyze herself or her life in a detached, objective way. Charmane feels and experiences but does not necessarily understand or reflect upon her experience, and thus finds it hard to talk about it. Really taking in what someone else has to say can be hard for Charmane Star - she does not readily adapt to new ideas or people, and as a result may become inflexible or limit her experience of life. Broadening her education and gaining exposure to different cultures is very beneficial to Charmane. Otherwise she is apt to be rigid and even prejudiced against those outside her own circle. (This may be manifested in arthritic conditions, poor flexibility, or poor circulation).

She also tends to distrust people who communicate freely or to feel inferior to those who are more articulate and intellectual than she is. Charmane Star learns much more readily by watching, doing or apprenticing than by reading or being told about something.

Charmane has trouble dealing with emotions - both her own and those of others. Charmane Star often ignores or discounts feelings and the emotional reality of a situation, thus seeming insensitive or uncaring to others. Star needs to develop the capacity to experience deep emotional ties, empathy, compassion and sensitivity to the feelings of others; however, this ability will only manifest later in life rather than in her youth.

Though she may appear emotionally self-sufficient or above it all, Charmane's tendency to repress her feelings could have physical ramifications; as such, it would serve Star well to learn to acknowledge and express all of her emotions.

Star may also find that she craves fluids or the desire to live near bodies of water as a means to acquire balance.

As described in chapter 3, Charmane Star also possesses a solid sense of reality, as well as the ability to work and discipline herself in order to fulfill her hopes and dreams.
