Carl Barāt motivation
Though Carl Barāt seems rather cautious and conservative (as discussed in the previous chapter), he has a much more playful, humorous side as well. Moreover, the combination of his attention to detail and cautious, circumspect approach to life, coupled with his youthful curiosity and quick mind makes Carl mentally sharp, articulate and clever.
Carl Barāt is, in many ways, an eternal child. His mind is bright, alert, curious, flexible, playful and always eager for new experiences - and his attention span is often quite brief. Barāt grasps ideas quickly and once his initial curiosity has been satisfied, he is ready to move on. Carl Barāt craves frequent change and variety, as well as new situations and people.
It may be hard for Carl Barāt to decide just where his talents and true vocation lie, for he has a multitude of interests and is loathe limiting himself by concentrating on just one. He is easily distracted by all of the other fascinating possibilities. His curiosity and restlessness propel Carl toward many different experiences in life, and he is willing to taste or try anything once. Doing the same thing over and over again, even if it is something he does well, is tantamount to drudgery for Barāt.
Carl Barāt lives in his head a great deal - reading, observing, thinking, spinning ideas around - and he needs mental stimulation every bit as much as he needs food and drink. In fact, if Carl had to choose between a good book or movie and a good lunch, he would very likely choose the former. Carl Barāt has a creative mind and he often lives by his wits.
He is also a very social creature, with a strong need to communicate and interact with people. He enjoys using and playing with words and has a real flair for getting his ideas across in a clever, interesting, articulate manner. Writing and/or speaking are areas he has talent for.
Carl Barāt also has a rather lighthearted and mischievous sense of humor, and often does not take anything too seriously. Though he craves emotional involvement, it is hard for Carl Barāt to achieve it, for he is frequently unwilling to commit himself to anything, to take responsibility or to limit his personal freedom and mobility.
His happiness lies in using his creativity and language skills to communicate something meaningful, teach, inspire, or bring people together. Carl has an unbiased mind and can usually offer a fresh, clear, uncluttered perspective. His faults are his lack of constancy and persistence, and his tendency to overlook or ignore deep emotional issues and other people's feelings.
His career, reputation and public image are very important to Barāt. Carl Barāt has a strong desire to be influential or make his mark on the world. He is not satisfied with the personal sphere alone; his ambitions include making a major contribution and receiving broad recognition for his unique effort and gifts. Carl Barāt may undervalue the personal or inner facet of life.
At times Carl Barāt may feel an uncontrollable urge to radically alter his direction in life or to act in ways that seem eccentric or at least highly atypical. When his life becomes too predictable, Carl may do something to upset the status quo, sometimes without realizing why or how he is doing it. These impulses may seem at odds with his conscious intent and desires for himself, and can be unsettling. However, there is a streak of unconventionality and creative genius in Carl Barāt that needs to be expressed now and then.
Carl Barāt is extremely sensitive, compassionate and giving, often to his own detriment. His ideals and spiritual values motivate Carl Barāt, and he cannot live for personal gain or materialistic concerns alone. There must be an element of beauty, magic, imagination, inspiration or creativity in what he does. Otherwise Carl Barāt becomes listless and aimless. The arts, theater, music and/or charitable work are ideally suited to Carl.
Carl Barāt deeply believes in his own power and his ability to survive any change and emerge victorious from any difficulty. Carl has tremendous inner resources and strength. Intense, strong willed, and zealous, he pursues his desires and goals with complete dedication and singleness of purpose, and he may be somewhat compulsive and even fanatical at times. Carl likes to live intensely and has no respect for people who are weak or avoid confronting life and their own destiny.
His mind is very active and his judgment usually is sound. Although Carl Barāt's thinking is influenced by his feelings, he is inclined to think in realistic and practical terms. He is in control of his feelings and is able to express them rationally.
