Behind Davis' rather prudent, shrewd and guarded manner (described in the previous chapter), she is really kind, altruistic and idealistic. She is also much more vulnerable than she appears. She is very prudent and sharp in handling some of her affairs, but occasionally Davis' deep-rooted idealism can cloud her vision. Moreover, she may wage an internal battle, swinging between traditional, conservative pragmatism and lofty idealism.

At heart she is very gentle, impressionable and receptive - a dreamer. The world of her imagination, feelings, and intuition is as real to Adelle Davis as anything in the outer world, though she may have trouble verbalizing or interpreting her inner experiences in a way others can understand. Adelle Davis tends to think and act bravely and has a positive and firm demeanor. Adelle has what it takes to make her own way in life. She may be a bit excitable, but never shy away from a good argument.

Adelle Davis probably has great intellectual ability and curiosity. Adelle never seem to run out of ideas and always welcomes the study of new subjects, the more abstract the better. But she also has the basic sense to translate abstract ideas into practical reality.

Davis alternates between aggression and apathy and sometimes feels that she is unable to meet all the demands made on her. Once Adelle Davis becomes aware of what she needs to do, however, she is capable of working long and hard, not giving up until her work is done.
